Crafting Carbon: Artisanal vs. Industrial Biochar
About The Webinar
Gear up for the next episode of the Patch Project Showcase Series, where we're turning the spotlight on two different biochar production methods; artisanal and industrial. We have two speakers both operating biochar production facilities in the Global South. Firstly, Freddie Catlow from Planboo will tell us about an artisanal approach to biochar production that makes use of agricultural waste biomass from across Africa and Asia. Secondly, Francesco Guglielmi from Exomad will tell us about their industrial-scale biochar production facility that utilizes its own stream of waste biomass from its Bolivian timber operations.
This session promises to provide a deep dive into biochar production methods, their challenges, and the broader implications for sustainable carbon management.
In this webinar, you’ll learn:
- Artisan vs. Industrial Biochar: Explore the distinctive methods employed by Planboo's artisanal biochar approach and Exomad's larger-scale industrial process. Understand how these methods cater to different needs within the biochar landscape.
- Biomass sourcing: Deep dive into the various sources of biomass used in Africa, Asia and Latin America, and their environmental impacts.
- Challenges to scale: Gain a comprehensive understanding of the challenges inherent in scaling biochar production for both artisanal and industrial methods.
